Honeywell commemorates golden anniversary of TPE331 engine at AirVenture 2016

     With more than 500,000 people and 10,000 planes in attendance, the EEA's annual AirVenture Oshkosh is renowned as one of the most popular airshows and aviation conventions in the world.

Cessna’s Pelton Issues Aviation Industry Call to Action for Environmental Issues

The Cessna Homepage reports that Chairman, President and CEO Jack Pelton issued a call to action to the general aviation community to take a leadership role in defining solutions to environmental issues so that responsible stewardship works in conjunction with economic considerations required for industry growth.

Pelton made the remarks in a speech after receiving the 2010 Lindbergh Award, given annually to individuals whose work over many years has made significant contributions toward Lindbergh’s concept of balancing technology and nature.

The award was presented here Wednesday at a dinner at the Sun ‘n Fun fly-in and trade show. “Aviation has established an outstanding track record in reducing its environmental impact as we grow to meet rising demand for transportation around the world,” Pelton said. “To further reduce aviation’s impact on climate change requires partnerships between industry and government, and a commitment to find realistic solutions . . .technically and financially viable solutions everyone can live with.”

Gulfstream G450 Business Jet Sets Speed Record Between Oranjestad and Barcelona

A large-cabin, long-range Gulfstream G450 business jet recently established a city-pair speed record between Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba, and Barcelona International Airport in Spain.

The aircraft flew 4,374 nautical miles in 8 hours, 56 minutes, at an average speed of Mach 0.80 with no headwinds. It landed with 3,900 pounds of fuel remaining.

Piloting the G450 was Jaime Bahamon, international demonstration captain. Ross Oetjen, senior international demonstration captain, served as copilot. In addition to flight attendant Lori Starbuck, nine passengers were onboard the flight.

The National Aeronautic Association confirmed the flight as a U.S. record and forwarded the figures to the Federation Aeronautique International in Switzerland for approval as a world record.

Aircraft Gathering For EAA AirVenture 2009 Unmatched Anywhere Else

AirVenture.org features information on the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, called “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” happening on July 27-August 2 at Wittman Regional Airport.

According to the AirVenture.org site, this year’s unmatched collection of aircraft includes the cutting edge of technology (Virgin Galactic’s VMS Mothership “Eve” space carrier vehicle - pictured below) to the enormous (Airbus A380) to the historic (1909 Wright B Flyer replica) and everything in between.

The 2008 General Aviation Technology Challenge Seeks Greener And Quieter Aircraft

The CAFE Foundation's homepage reports on the 2008 General Aviation Technology Challenge to be conducted at CAFE's Flight Test Center in Santa Rosa, California from August 2-10, 2008.

According to the CAFE Foundation, NASA and CAFE have partnered to create a new challenge for 2008 to advance five vital General Aviation Technologies: noise reduction, fuel efficiency, speed, safety and ease of use.

The first-ever "Green Prize" for transportation will test true "Environmental Efficiency". Aircraft competing for the Green Prize will advance all of the valuable measures of energy use; MPG as well as speed and payload.

Reducing vehicle noise emissions is vitally important to general aviation. The new GAT Community Noise Prize Challenge places a major priority on the reduction of noise emitted into the community.

Making personal aircraft safer and easier to fly is a primary goal of the new Aviation Safety Prize Challenge. This $50,000 prize will recognize achievement in implementing electronic pilot assistance (eCFI) along with rewarding outstanding handling qualities.

The $25,000 CAFE 400 Prize is a 400 mile cross-country air race over Northern California. However, each aircraft's speed result is tempered by its takeoff distance capability as well as by its fuel efficiency. Burn too much fuel in the CAFE 400 and you are disqualified.

Harrison Ford Narrates "Oshkosh: The Spirit Of Aviation"

The official site for the EAA's AirVenture Oshkosh features a 18 minute video called Oshkosh: The Spirit Of Aviation, narrated by Harrison Ford.

The video highlights the events and history of the Oshkosh gathering and offers a glimpse of what this year's gathering will offer. The 56th annual EAA fly-in convention takes place July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Harrison Ford will be attending Oshkosh to introduce the classic "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" on Wednesday evening, July 30, as part of Fly-In Theater.

Aviation related films are shown during Fly-In Theater at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, presented by Ford Motor Company and Eclipse Aviation, featuring movies nightly on July 27 through August 2.

Mooney Aircraft Company To Display The Acclaim Type S At Parade of Pistons In Denver

Mooney Airplane Company will be displaying and demonstrating the world’s fastest piston single, the Mooney Acclaim Type S, at an upcoming aviation event, the Parade of Pistons, sponsored by FLYING magazine and AMPT Associates at Denver’s Centennial Airport (KAPA) from Thursday July 17 through Saturday, July 19.

The piston aircraft expo will be open to the public from 10 AM until 5 PM each day. Mooney will have an aircraft on static display, and will be scheduling demonstration flights for qualified prospects according to Bob Shank, Mooney’s Regional Sales Manager for the Northwestern United States. “FLYING magazine and AMPT Associates have created outstanding opportunities for us to interact with prospects and we’ve had some success at similar events in California and Texas,” said Shank.  Mooney recorded a pair of sales at the most recent Parade of Pistons event at Addison, Texas.  

Parade of Pistons is an aircraft expo designed to build momentum in the new piston engine aircraft marketplace.   Participants include manufacturers offering airplanes ranging in price from $50,000 Light Sport Aircraft (LSAs) to $650,000 high performance singles and twins.  It will include information and representatives from aero clubs, insurance and finance companies, as well as one of the country’s top aircraft brokers.

Fly-In Theater Free Movies On July 27-August 2 At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008

In just two years, aviation movies under the stars have become a favored tradition at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. Those feature films will be returning in 2008 as Ford Motor Company and Eclipse Aviation bring back the popular “Fly-In Theater” on the AirVenture grounds. The 56th annual EAA fly-in convention is July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The outdoor theater, located adjacent to EAA’s Camp Scholler camping area, will be open each evening (weather permitting) from Sunday, July 27 through Saturday, August 2. The walk-in theater is reminiscent of the famous drive-in theaters of the past, complete with open-air seating and popcorn! There is no admission charge for the theater, which is open to all AirVenture guests. Each evening’s show begins at approximately 8:30 p.m., with an introduction by a celebrity presenter, followed by a classic aviation film, shown on a projection screen measuring five stories high.

“It’s impressive to see just how popular the aviation films at the Fly-In Theater have become in such a short period of time at EAA AirVenture,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA president and AirVenture chairman. “We appreciate the support of Ford Motor Company and Eclipse Aviation to bring this popular feature back to Oshkosh in 2008.
